A list of common décorating mistakes that block wealth and abundance from entering your home. And how to fix them by re-arranging your entryway
BY NABANITA DUTT
Did you know that a `healthy’ entryway or foyer can dramatically improve your financial prospects? Would you believe that something as seemingly irrelevant as your front door can actually help you find a new job, get a raise or pay off your debts?
If you’re familiar with feng-shui or vaastu or any of the other ancient laws of home design, you know where we’re going with this. But we’re not going to talk to you about the usual feng-shui `cures’ like wind chimes and money frogs to turn your luck. They can be confusing, and even harmful if used the wrong way.
Instead, we’re going to talk about `décor luck’. And how changing a few aspects of your entryway or foyer can instantly affect your wealth prospects.
You only need to understand one, single idea that is at the core of what we call `good luck’. And that is chi or energy.
A lucky home is a living space that invites positive chi or positive energies. It’s a place where the good vibrations of health, wealth and happiness can easily enter and flow.
On the flip side, there is bad energy or bad chi that stagnates and coagulates in your rooms, blocking your path to success. It messes up your family life, affects your mental peace and depletes your bank balance.
For abundance of all kinds, your home has to attract plenty of good chi. And, like any guest paying your home a visit, the chi has to come inside using your entryway.
This article will teach you how to decorate this vital area to attract wealth energies in particular. And to do that, we will focus on the two most important things: (1) front door and (2) entryway décor.
HOW TO ATTRACT WEALTH BY FIXING YOUR FRONT DOOR
Perhaps the most important key to increasing abundance in your home is your front door. It is the portal through which the energies of luck and prosperity enter your house, and there are several ways in which you can invite money to come inside.
>>> IS YOUR FRONT DOOR PAINTED IN THE RIGHT `WEALTH’ COLOR?
♦ Which direction is your front door facing? Use a compass to find out if you don’t know.
Each direction is associated with an `element’ color, which helps to channel wealth energies towards your entryway.
In case you are re-painting your door or buying a new one, use the color chart below as a guideline.
If a color change is not possible right now, don’t panic. You can still introduce the directional color by hanging a decorative item in the right shade. Or even pasting a color sample card from the paint store somewhere on the door.
Your intent has a lot of power, and any color change you make with the clear intention of inviting wealth energies will be of enormous help.
Front Door Color Chart
♦ ♦ ♦ North: Dark Blue or Black.
♦ ♦ ♦ South: Red or Burgundy.
♦ ♦ ♦ East and South-East: Green.
♦ ♦ ♦ West and North-West: White, Silver, Copper or Gold.
♦ ♦ ♦ South-West and North-East: Yellow or Brown.
>>> YOUR FRONT DOOR OPENS `INWARDS’ OR `OUT’?
♦ When a front door opens `inwards’, the beneficial energies easily enter your house. If the door opens `outwards’ however, you are unwittingly pushing good luck away.
Change the direction the door opens by turning the hinges, and you will immediately feel a difference.
>>> REMOVE `BLOCKS’ IN FRONT OF THE DOOR
♦ If your front entrance is cluttered with stuff, they are creating obstructions that are driving good energy away. The path leading to your front door should always be clear. Make it look inviting with well-arranged flower pots etc, but always make sure that the path is clear at all times.
>>> IS YOUR FRONT DOOR MADE OF WOOD?
♦ This is an annoying truth, but it really has to be told. Many of us live in homes with a front door designed with glass. Or made of synthetic material.
While they look great, artificial material causes great loss of wealth energy. All other doors in the house can be made of any material and have no impact on your spiritual and material well-being. But the front door should always be made of solid wood to anchor wealth energy.
Glass or synthetic front doors are `porous’, incapable of holding onto positive vibrations, and a living space always feels less secure and homey as a result.
Yes, our front doors can actually affect how comfortable we feel inside. So if you have the choice, always opt for a wooden door.
>>> FOR GOD’S SAKE, USE YOUR FRONT DOOR!
♦ How often do you really use your front door to enter or leave the house? Chances are you don’t.
For convenience’s sake, many of us have fallen into the habit of using the garage or side entrances instead.
This is a particularly bad idea, because the front door is the portal to all wealth energy, and the force diffuses and dies when you don’t treat the front door as your main entrance.
HOW TO ATTRACT WEALTH BY CHANGING YOUR ENTRYWAY DÉCOR
Okay, the front door comes with a bunch of problems you cannot always fix. But home décor is something that is fully in your control, and you can plan your entryway décor with some of these important wealth-enhancing factors in mind.
>>> ALLOW MONEY TO `FLOW’ IN WITH A WATER FEATURE
♦ To invite wealth, water is your best friend and primary décor inspiration. Anything that suggests water or free flow is welcome and essential in your entryway.
The best way to do this is to buy an indoor fountain for your foyer. No matter how small your space, you’ll find a decorative table-top water fountain that will suit your interiors and add the soothing gurgle of water to announce free flowing prosperity.
>>> INTRODUCE THE COLOR `BLACK’
♦ Black synchronizes with water, and is a very effective wealth color. Consciously introduce some decoratives in black – a vase, a wall hanging, a chair, anything – to infuse the color of wealth. If you are dead against black, blue will also do in a crunch.
>>> CHOOSE ARTWORK THAT SUGGEST WATER
♦ If you’re shopping for artwork, go for prints and paintings that suggest water to you. Koi fish, for example, is an extremely lucky motif if you’re attracting wealth. Scenes of rivers, oceans, rippling abstract prints – anything that carries an association with water is perfect for entryway décor.
>>> HANG A DECORATIVE MIRROR TO MULTIPLY WEALTH
♦ Be careful! Never ever hang a mirror directly opposite the front door. It will reflect good energy straight out the door again. Instead, hang a decorative mirror on the side walls, and let the reflection work in your favor, multiplying abundance even as it enters your space.
>>> ADD SOME DÉCOR ITEMS IN GOLD
♦ The color gold has a natural affinity for wealth, so prepare your home to receive an abundance of it with gold colors and circular shaped items in gold.
>>> SELECT YOUR RUG CAREFULLY
♦ Motifs and designs carry energy, and you must remember that when choosing a rug for your entryway.
For example, living creatures should not be depicted on a rug where they will be trampled underfoot. Similarly, no auspicious symbolism should be on the ground either. Go with flowing abstract designs, florals etc. instead in suitably cheerful colors. A rug with lots of black or blue will be very, very suitable, if your décor allows it.
The most important thing that will make a difference during all this re-decorating is your intent. Be very conscious of every small decorative addition or subtraction you make. Take things away with the clear knowledge that you are removing blockages. Introduce stuff with similar awareness that its presence is an open invitation for wealth energy to suffuse your home.
When you are done, stand back, take a deep breath and notice how you feel. Your spirits will tell you that you have successfully removed hidden obstructions, and even the air feels more energized and positive around you.

I am an avid follower of fang shui, but I really liked the way you have not just listed a lot of cures but looked at how money issues can be solved without filling the house with laughing buddhas and wind chimes. Energy can be vitalized with good decorations. Really enjoyed the post.
